  • Year 1 – Term Newsletter 'Rainforest'

    Our topic is ‘Rainforest’. We aim to incorporate this across other subjects for a creative curriculum. Here is a snippet of what we shall be doing. 

    Non-fiction and information texts about rainforests and the animals found there. Poetry linked to rainforests and the senses. Setting descriptions using adjectives. 

    Time, properties of 2D and 3D shape, number and place value, money, addition and subtraction. 

    Weather; compare weather in England to weather in rainforests. Making rain catchers. Life cycles of rainforest frogs. 

    Rainforests; location (maps/continent/country), comparing to other parts of the world. 

    Exploring texture, pattern and printing using different media. Wax and water colour reptile and plant paintings. Animal craft. 

    Values & Beliefs
    Christianity; Disciple/faith. Why do Christians trust Jesus and follow him? 

    Crossfit and multi skills/ athletics. 

    Using Word to type Rainforest information/facts. 

    Charanga- ‘use your imagination.’

    In Literacy we have been learning about 'Superworms.' We read the story by Julia Donaldson and have been learning facts and information about worms including what they eat. We have even made our very own 'Superworm Wormery' !
