Special Educational Needs

Our SENDCO at St Peter & St Paul Primary School is Mrs Jarvis.

Children have Special Educational Needs if they have a learning difficulty that calls for special educational provision to be made for them.

Children have a learning difficulty if they:

  • have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age
  • have a disability that prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age in schools within the area of the Local Authority:
  • are under compulsory school age, and fall within the definitions above, or would do so if special educational provision were not made for them.’  (Code of Practice September 2014)

​What should I do if I think my child has Special Educational Needs?
At St Peter & St Paul CE Primary School, children are identified as having SEN through a variety of ways, including:

  • Liaison with previous school or schools within the Partnership
  • Child performing below age-expected levels
  • Concerns raised by a Parent/Carer
  • Concerns raised by a teacher, eg behaviour or self esteem affecting performance
  • Liaison with external agencies, eg physical, sensory
  • Health diagnosis through a paediatrician

Talk to us. Firstly, contact your child’s class teacher on 01379 870497, or the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO), Mrs Jarvis. The SENDCO will oversee all the support and progress of any child requiring additional support across the school.

We have an open door policy, and pride ourselves on building positive relationships with parents.

We are open and honest with parents, and hope that they are able to be the same with us.
