PE in school and Sports Competitions
We are introducing a new regular ‘Sports Newsletter’ to keep you up to date with events, diary dates and how we are using the Sports Premium funding within school to support the learning and participation of PE. We have some exciting things planned for the year ahead!
A new ‘Sport Squad’ of Year 6 pupils has been assigned. We have been meeting each week to discuss and plan sports related activities and events in school. They will be selecting ‘Sporty’ certificate winners each week and leading ‘Golden Mile’ running clubs for pupils. This shall begin after half term in addition to assisting with activities at lunch and break. In order to represent the ‘pupil voice’ of the school the squad have visited classes in order to collect votes on a new piece of outdoor play equipment. Watch this space!
To support our PE delivery, will shall be welcoming some new outside coaches. We have been so lucky to have already had Ellie Barnes from T800 Crossfit delivering Crossfit and Gymnastics sessions to pupils. This upcoming half term we shall be welcoming Diss RFC’s youth development coach who will be teaching Years 3 and 5 on a Tuesday afternoon. We will also be having Premier Sports in to deliver some of the PE curriculum to all pupils on a Friday.
We have loved our ‘wow’ days so much in the past that we have decided we would like to offer our pupils more! This school year we shall be taking part in 6 exciting ‘Enrichment Days’. These will include topical themes, sports and cross curricula links. Our first one is Lacrosse, taking place on Friday 18th October where all pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a Lacrosse session with a specialist coach. Our second Enrichment Day is Archery on 29th November.
In order to offer our pupils the opportunity to take part in more physical activity we will be introducing more varied clubs to our pupils. Each child will now have the opportunity to join a ‘Golden Mile’ running club run by the Sport Squad and Miss Hilton at lunch times. Diss RFC will also be running an after school club for KS2 pupils Tuesdays 3:15-4:15 at the cost of £3 pp. Also, we shall be offering a Gymnastics club run by Premier Sport on Fridays after school for Year 1-6 pupils. These will be on offer after half term along with other exciting clubs which can be found on the full club letter. Rugby club can be signed up now at the office and Gymnastics club can be signed up online or via phone here.
If your child is classed as pupil premium and would like to join a club do please contact the office staff for any support.
This school year sees our highest amount of sports competition entries. These take place throughout the year and are lots of fun to attend. The upcoming half term sees Football (Nov 6th), Tag Rugby (Nov 13th) and Ball Games (Nov 21st), events can also be seen on our school calendar. We are also planning on hosting our own intra school events between classes as well as hosting events for schools within the All Saints Schools Trust.
I hope you enjoy the addition of the ‘Sports Newsletter’ and find it useful. I am very excited about all of our plans and hope you will be too. Here’s to an active year!
